And this is what some of the press have had to say about the new single 'Victoria Falls'...

“Take the quirky cut ‘n’ paste antics of the Avalanches and DJ Yoda, throw in the soulful, melodic touches of RJD2 and sprinkle a bit of electro into the mix and you’re somewhere close to the weird and often wacky world of Backini”

Future Music

“ ‘Phantom of the Opera’ meets ‘ I fell in love with a starship trooper’, starring a robot songstress ‘Playing kiss chase in outerspace!”

DMC

“Backini has his own inimitable loungecore way with the professor of maths”

DJ Mag

“Backini is quite possibly mad, is without a doubt incredibly, darkly creative and makes the greatest glitch sex pop that fizzes and spits like a much needed Alkazelter after a night on the sticky beer covered rock tiles”

Blowback

Previous press quotes for Backini

Some tunes are just irresistible. Like, for example, when the master of breakbeat time-traveling Backini samples some 20s vocals about the Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy Of Company B, it's pre-meditated pop genius right there. It's probably the silliest slice of hiphop likely to be heard being pumped out at Brighton club nights this year, and all the better for it.

Cheeky B-Boy Backini has already offered a couple of warm sampladelic greetings in the shape of tracks like “Dreamer” and “Champagne Flute”. Apparent on these cuts is his skillful use of blending swingtime jazz, kitsch pop and melodramatic cinematics- themes that become a regular and enjoyable motif throughout his largely downtempo LP.

Tripping gaily through a kaleidoscope of exotically charged, motion inducing beats and scenery, Backini’s sharp, Avalanches-style sense of shaping and mellifluously melodic structures give his tunes a magical storing-telling edge.

Here’s something unique and original. We’ve all heard cool jazzy dance beats like this before, but what about the samples from ‘40s big bands and bebop, or class kitsch from America’s wartime sweethearts The Andrews Sisters? Don’t be put off by the strange ingredients; this adds up to one big tasty mix (it’ll) have you dancing round your lounge before you know it. Delicious.

4/5 Tom Stone (Glamour Magazine)

Like all good sample-happy beat-smiths, Backini doesn’t care who or what goes into his Akai- as far as he’s concerned, it’s all fair game… phat hip hop beats, Bonobo-esque musicality (not to mention atmospherics) and a touch of Avalanches-style cut-up cheekiness, and you’ve got yourself something something rather special.

'Threads’ is the sort of LP you’ll find it hard to stop listening to… the depth of production is mighty impressive… it’ll be in your CD player for weeks. Wonderfully involving stuff from a freaky beat junkie.

Matt Anniss (IDJ Magazine)

A stitched porno cover by Jenny King houses some lush tunes. Sure they sample loads of old records, but they wear them well.

...he does it with wit, verve and funk to make it rock...there's a new musical magpie on the block.
